Astroturf Pitches at Poltonhall – Update
The club paid for essential repairs to be carried out to the Astros to prevent the closure of the pitches. These patches will only last so long, however hopefully long enough to allow us to come up with a robust plan and funding options to replace the Astros before the closure is the only option we have.
The Asset Transfer application is almost ready to be submitted to the Council. If successful, we need to be ready with a robust plan to try and raise as much funding as we can through fundraising activities over the next 12 months or so.
The cheapest price we’ve been quoted is in the region of £250,000.00. Huge sum of money and something that we’ll need as much help and support with trying to raise. There are no grants or funding organisations that will invest in Football only and the reality at this stage is that without the Astroturf the future of the club as we know it is in the balance, never mind all the other good things the club is getting involved in and supporting.
The first Fundraising meeting will be held on Sunday 8th April, at Poltonhall Pavilion at 6 pm. Ideally, we need every age group represented as the different age groups will can get involved in different things. If you have some time you can spare to maybe to organise or offer practical help with, please come along. There’s only a handful of people on the committee and they can’t do this on their own.
Just for reassurance, If you can come along it doesn’t mean you will be expected to get involved in everything – if everyone just takes on a little bit it will make it a more manageable task . Thanks in advance.
We had a bag packing day at Tesco’s on 31/03/2018. It was predominantly the 2004’s and 2008’s, so thank you to everyone that went along. There was approx. £ 750.00, collected. So far for both club bag packing slots we have approx. £1,500.00 in the pot ! 😊😉😊

Mental Health Update…
Approximately half the coaches/ officials have now attended Mental Health First Aid sessions. They are extremely worthwhile and no one that’s participated hasn’t left with a better understanding and a feeling of more compassion about the issues that some people are faced with around mental health. The remainder of the coaches/ officials will be trained in October this year.
There will be a session around eating disorders soon. If anyone has a vested interest and would like to attend, please just drop Trish an email and she’ll get in touch with Information. ( email@example.com )
Trish is looking into how we introduce positive behaviors into the day to day business for the kids/ members with a view to identifying where we can help make a positive impact through what we do at the club. More to follow on this ….
The lovely ‘Mums Walk Midlothian’ Group is off the ground. They have had new Mums join their weekly walks which is fantastic and proves there is a real need for what they are doing locally.
The concept of the group is a peer support group for Mums who are struggling with Post-natal Depression , or low mood after having their babies. The founder members of the group have personal experience in coping with challenging times and want to make sure everyone that needs it can access help, support, reassurance, someone to speak to in a safe and non-judgemental way. It’s a proven fact that talking about things is the first step to making things better..
The club is delighted to support the group and work in partnership with the group going forward.
The group are having a fundraising night On 18th April at the Link in Loanhead. The night is a ‘Pamper’ night, so a little treat for all the ladies !

Club Football News…….
2007’s Team update
The 2007’s had a great time bag packing last weekend at M&S and raised a staggering £1000 which will be used to get the kids kitted out with new strips. The team will get the chance to show case their new strips on 21st April when they are on the pitch as Mascots and will provide half time pitch entertainment for the Berwick Rangers match. The kids have been invited by Berwick Rangers to be part of their day and they’ll get the chance to meet the Berwick Rangers team too. Great Experience for them !
Bonnyrigg Rose U10’s Football Festival May 2018
The 2008’s are hosting a Football Festival on 26th May at Poltonhall. It will be a fantastic family day. Great Football fun. There’s teams from far and wide coming to join in the day. Keep an eye on the club website and Facebook page for further details.
2002’s Division 2 League Cup Final
The 2002 Pumas have a cup final on 22nd April, 2 pm kick off. The match will be held at the Juniors ground at New Dundas Park … Please support if you can. Good Luck Boys !!
Huge warm welcome to our first ladies team
Bonnyrigg Rose Ladies Football Team are now up and running, this is the first ladies team in Midlothian and will play their league fixtures in the SWFL Division 2.
The club is delighted at the prospect of working with ‘Gold and Gray , Soccer Academy with a view to adding ‘Mini Messi’ to the portfolio of services the club offers. This will be advertised via FB and the website, however if anyone is interested in getting their child ( pre school , ages 2-4 ) involved in this, please email Trish to register your interest … firstname.lastname@example.org

First Aid Courses – Danny Burnett is now running 1 day First Aid Courses. The course consists of E Learning with a quick exam held in the morning. The first of these was held on the 31st March, Danny believes the 1 day course was the first of its kind to have been held in the East of Scotland. The course was well received by those that attended including two ladies from our Community Associate Members the new Walking Mums group.
