May 2017 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

There iss a lot going on at the club and the committee just wanted to share the progress being made as well as keep everyone informed of some of the ideas we’re thinking about for the club going forward.

The Club took over the Pavillion around 6 months ago. There’s been refurbs carried out, lots of painting, decorating and generally making it a pleasant place to be. Please pop in and have a look around.

Wrap around Care Nursery / Bonnyrigg after School club are using the facility daytime during the week and the facility is available for evening and weekends too for other sporting groups as well as football training/matches.

If you are interested in using the facilities for events, evening classes / group gatherings we have a hall that will comfortably hold 12 for possible keep fit/ yoga etc, please get in touch with Jim Wilson on 078818050015 or Colin McEwan on 07815163105 ) if you are interested in using the facility.

The club has made a conscious decision to get more involved with Community initiatives, supporting our local community and citizens as well as football development. It’s early days, however we already have lots of ideas.

Bonnyrigg Rose Football Club is one of 3 clubs in Scotland that has been selected to work alongside Sported and the SFA on a project around the club development . This is a positive thing for the club and as the project develops we will share plans and outcomes.

On the team front

2010s – The 2010s are having a football festival on the 10th June at Poltonhall.
There will be pitches set up on the grass pitches and the café will be open all morning for parents and guests to get teas and coffees. It will be running from 11am till 1pm

2008s– The 2008 team are joining in the Gala Day spirit and will be part of the parade on Sunday 4th June. They are also going to have a stall on the day selling hot and cold food and drinks . All profits going towards a festival next year so please look out for them and grab a cuppu :-)

2007s – The 2007s are off on their travels on the 19th May to take part in a football festival at Flamingo land. Good Luck ! Have a great time and we’ll hear how it goes after the event !

The coaches have worked on a fantastic player profile for the team, please see the details at bonnyriggrose.org.uk.

The 2007 progress has been assisted through securing an additional training night on Friday and moving our training location to the new facility at Lasswade.

2002 Pumas – The Pumas have had a positive second half of this season, winning more matches than they have in the previous 2 seasons. A real highlight for the team was winning a match against Champions Elect Portobello. The team have really worked hard. Well Done boys..

Gary Ewing has made the decision to leave his coaching role with the team/ club. Gary has dedicated the last 8 years to supporting the team as a coach. Gary will be a real miss to the other coaches, kids and parents. A huge thankyou to Gary for his loyalty, commitment to the team and club.
U19’s

Success for the U19’S . They have won the league (Div 2) with 2 games to go and still unbeaten.

Reaching 2 Cup finals at Dundas park , unfortunately losing the first one, but still have the second one to come on the 21st of May. So , hoping for a league and cup double and go unbeaten in the league until the end of the season. Please go along and show your support if you can. GOOD LUCK!!

Boot Bin Recycle Point

Kids grow out of boots quickly. If you have Football Boots that are no longer of use and are still in good condition and you are happy to pass them on for someone else to get the use out of, there will be a big plastic tub placed at the at the entrance of the Pavillion. Please pop any boots in there and likewise if anyone is looking for boots, check the bin and there’s a pair in there to suit, then help yourself ! Please give the boots a clean before passing them on …

Gift Aid

As the football club now has charitable status it can benefit from Gift Aid. The way gift aid works is anyone paying tax in the U.K. can nominate a charity to benefit for up to 20% of the tax they pay. It has no impact on individuals at all you will be required to do is fill in a form. Coaches will pass the form/ info out to everyone and collect the forms back in. All money generated will go aback in to developing the club and our community. Please support the Gift Aid concept if you can. Thank you.

Volunteers

With so much going on at the club we really need help more than ever.

Can you spare any time ? If you can, please get in touch with Trish on 07834456625, or pop in to the Pavilion for a coffee and a chat. We have a long list of things we need help with, from managing newsletters , communications including social media accounts, to organising fundraising events, to supporting community projects. All very rewarding and would be so much appreciated by everyone involved.

Imminent projects

W&P Stickers – Club football sticker book. The kids will just love this. How great will it be when your child opens a packet of stickers and see themselves on a football sticker card? It’s been really successful at other clubs, especially with the younger kids. A great buzz for them.

To help this run smoothly we need at least 6 volunteers to support this project. Tasks include co-ordinating the pictures being taken for the teams, promoting advertising space, monitoring sticker sales. The initial meeting for this is on 21/05. Please call Trish ( 07834456625 ) if you can help in any way. Thank you .

Gift Aid process Do we have any accountants in our midst that have managed the Gift Aid process in a professional capacity? If you have worked with Gift Aid and can help get us up and running with this your help would be really appreciated. Please call John Sime on 07824888107.

Multi-cultural healthy eating We are looking to hold an event where we explore multi-cultural ‘healthy eating’. We already have buy in from our local Mosque and ideally would like to integrate as many different cultures as possible. If you are familiar with a specific culture and the traditional food of that culture, please get in touch. If we have anyone in the club who could present to the kids in particular about healthy eating, it would be really appreciated if you could get involved. Just give Trish a ring or pop in to the Pavilion.

There’s lots going on, all positive stuff. If you have any feedback or any suggestions ideas, especially around Community initiatives please get in touch with Trish on 07834456625.

Thank you for your continued support,

B.R.F.C. Committee
